The Making-Of “Studio 49” by Julio Carlos de Campos
Twinmotion real-time rendering tutorial
We are happy to share with you today the Making-Of “Studio 49” by architect Julio Carlos de Campos. This project is one of his realism studies using Twinmotion 2019. Studio 49 is a real architectural project featured on ArchDaily. During this Making-Of, Julio demonstrated how he used more than 70 new decals in Twinmotion 2019 to add realistic touches to his rendering. We hope you enjoy it!
Introduction
This Making-Of explains all the elements I used to recreate this “Studio 49” image in real-time using Twinmotion 2019. I’ll start by explaining how I prepared the 3D model and the materials I used in this scene. Then, I recorded a Making-Of video where I demonstrated each step in Twinmotion and the decal settings.
I hope this Making-Of can be helpful to Twinmotion users, especially the Twinmotion Users Group! Without further ado, let’s get started!
Specifications of this project
Architect: Julio Carlos de Campos
Reference project: Estudio 49 / Reyes Ríos + Larraín Arquitectos
Software used: SketchUp, Twinmotion 2019
Computer configuration: Intel Core i7-7700K – 4.20GHZ – RAM 16.0 GB – Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6G
Rendering time: rendered in 4K in 5,8 seconds.
The beginning – Preparing the project
The Studio 49 model is relatively simple. Created in SketchUp, the model is only detailed with significant elements for a realistic project.
To prepare the model for Twinmotion, the first thing to do is set the model position to 0.0.0 in SketchUp. This way, the model will be imported right in front of the camera in Twinmotion. The second important step is to have the project clean with its colors and textures previously separated. The objective is to facilitate the application of materials in Twinmotion 2019.
I also added my own materials to the road and to some detailed elements.
The choice of materials
Apart from detailed elements where textures are already added in SketchUp, the main building materials are all from the Twinmotion 2019 library. In the screenshots below, you’ll see the materials I used for different parts of the building as well as their configurations.
