Hello, everyone! It’s time for our Friday meet-up again to talk about Twinmotion 2018 tips and to answer questions you’ve asked on social media.

This time, we’ll cover the following subjects:

• How do I improve the lighting of my interior scene?

Do you find it difficult to manage lights in an interior scene in Twinmotion? The new lighting options added to the latest update Twinmotion 2018 v2, including Sun strength, Ambient and White balance brings more possibilities to create a comfortable lighting environment for your interior scene.

Settings: Sun – 1.00, Ambient – 1.00, White Bal – 8000K, GI – 1.00

Let’s take this scene as an example. This project is very dark,  and there is almost no natural light. To increase the overall brightness of the project, we first increased the intensity of the Sun and the Global Illumination, which simulates the bounce from the sun. Then, we lower the Ambient to reduce the blue effect brought about by the Environment cube map. Finally, we warm the image by increasing the white balance.

Settings: Sun – 4.7, Ambient – 0.5, White Bal – 11000K, GI – 2.00.

• Why can’t I export a BIMmotion file to a USB with enough space?

The BIMmotion .exe file can be exported to an external USB without any problems. This interactive file allows your client to walk inside a project at the height of a human being and discover a future project before it is even built.

Everything goes well until the last step, when BIMmotion refuses to be exported to your USB! Don’t worry! The problem may come from your USB file system.

First, check your USB file system by right-clicking on the USB drive icon:

For Windows:  Properties – General – File system.

For macOS: Get info – General – Format.

There are four major file systems: HFS+ (for macOS), NTFS (for Windows), FAT32 and exFAT. If your USB is using the FAT32 file system, you’ll have a maximum file size of 4GB. That’s where the problem comes from. We recommend you to format your USB to exFAT format. This is the only file system that works with all versions of Windows and macOS and does not have any max file-size or partition-size limits.

Please note: you do need to ensure that you have made at least one copy of the data before you begin!

• How do I prevent rain inside a building?

Thanks to an occlusion system, the weather system in Twinmotion 2018 ensures that rain or snow won’t fall on the inside of a building. However, the occlusion system doesn’t work on the glass material.

If your model has a glass roof, it may rain inside your building. A Twinmotion 2018 workaround: Place a basic primitive at the top of the glass roof and out of the camera. This way, the primitive will prevent rain from falling inside the building.
